Will you feel proud after carrying a meal you planned in your backpack for 5 miles then cooking it for your friends on the trail? Will you build a fort in the woods and sleep in it, knowing you've built it well?

Backpacking trip to Grayson highlands

Posted on Feb 21 2018 - 9:19pm

This hike is supposed to be one of the best in Virginia if not the east coast.  Ore plan would be meet at St. Pius Saturday at 8am, leave at 8:15-8:30 and get up there around 11.  We could then hike for about a mile and stop for lunch before going to the top of Mt. Rogers (highest point in Virginia). Our goal would be to hike 8-10 miles between Saturday and Sunday and camp along the Appalachian trail (maybe one of the AT shelters if available).  Return early Sunday afternoon, TBD.

Service Opportunity - St. Francis Book Sale

Service Hour Volunteer Opportunity at St. Francis Book Sale

Do you need service hours?  Look no further!  The 60th Annual St. Francis Book Sale will be held at the end of April and we need volunteers to make it happen.  Last year, this sale raised over $55,000 and all proceeds are given back to organizations in our community.

We need volunteers for moving and unpacking books on Saturday, April 21st from 9-2.  We also need volunteers on Saturday, April 28th, the last day of the sale, from  9am to 4pm (in the morning for helping customers take books to their cars and in the afternoon for packing up books and breaking down tables).  There are other volunteer opportunities throughout the week of April 22nd if those dates do not work for the scout. To sign up, see below (Read More)

Chili Prep and Sale Postponed Due To Weather!

Posted on Feb 1 2018 - 8:24pm
Hello Scouts and families!
Due to predicted winter weather Sunday morning we are postponing the chili sale.
Sunday is still National Scout Sunday so if you can attend mass we would like to have Boy Scouts together wearing Class A at the 9:00 mass.
We hope to cook and sell our chili next weekend Feb 12/13 and we are waiting for approval from St Pius.  I will email all as soon as we have approval.
The SPX kitchen is booked so I am looking for 1-2 home kitchens that could host a small crew to cook cornbread.  Please respond if we could use your kitchen.  We are just too concerned that we could end up with 700 quarts of chili and a canceled mass schedule if the weather comes as predicted!
Thank you for understanding!
