Welcome to the Troop 244 Website!

Do you like adventure? Do you want to learn outdoor skills and know how take care of yourself and others in the wilderness? Do you want to lead others, learn new skills and serve those in need in your community? Do you want to cook over a campfire with your friends while breathing in fresh air and listening to the wind in the trees overhead?  Does hiking to a stream, taking off your shoes and jumping in sound like fun?  Would you dare kayak 50 miles down a river knowing you have been taught everything you need to know to do it? Will you feel proud after carrying a meal you planned in your backpack for 5 miles then cooking it for your friends on the trail? Will you build a fort in the woods and sleep in it, knowing you've built it well?

Troop 244 can show you the path to fly like an Eagle. We are seeking interested young men, of any faith from any school to join us in our journey. Visit us on Tuesday nights from 7:00-8:30 at Saint Pius School to learn more. Please select "Send Email" to request more information.

We are asking all Scout families who plan to eat with us to register online and if possible volunteer to bring beverages (tea, water, soft drinks, lemonade, etc.). This allows the committee to plan for the appropriate amount of food.
  • Advancement Opportunity- Jennifer and Denny Kerns are offering Advancement Office hours, Thursday 7:30-9:00 at their home 4950 Harvest Rd McLeansville, NC. This is for any Scout that has advancement questions/needs. Scouts should send an email to Jennifer and Denny Kerns copying Scoutmaster outing the specific Rank or Merit Badge advancement need they have and request a (15) minute time slot.

  • Swim Checks: We are working to secure a swim check location/date prior to attending summer camp. If anyone has access to a pool, please email Scoutmaster. Please note we can supply our own lifeguards.

We had a great meeting Tuesday night and accomplished a lot including:

  • OA elections
  • discussion on Scout POR and Leadership
  • individual scout advancement work
  • Target First Class fitness requirements
  • SM Johnston, SPL Leggett and ASPL Borden worked to create revised balanced patrols

We are coming to the end of our traditional scout year and I wanted to give a brief update on where our Troop stands. While we had no crossover scouts from the Pack this spring we were fortunate to have (3) new scouts join our Troop so we will have a First Year patrol led again by ASM Denny Kerns.

Our Court of Honor and Scout Elections are next Tuesday. Prior to our Court of Honor (COH) Scouts seeking a Leadership Role / Position of Responsibility will be asked to say a few words about what they hope to accomplish if elected/appointed. We will then distribute ballots and the scouts will vote for their new Senior Patrol Leader (SPL). After our COH, each patrol will eat together and hold internal elections for their respective Patrol Leader (PL) and the SPL will appoint his Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL) and other appointed positions. This election process allows us to enter summer camp with our new boy-led youth leadership team in place.

Our calendar of remaining meetings is below. Please note items highlighted in yellow are time sensitive for attendance, registration and or payment purposes. To learn more about these activities and register please review the Troop “Calendar” or "Upcoming Events" links on the Troop244 Home Page, https://greensboro244.mytroop.us/home.
